A grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois provides vegetables to the Rock River Valley Pantry.
Generous funding from the Community Grants Program, of the Community Foundation of Northern IL., has provided more than 16,000 cans of vegetables to the Rock River Valley Pantry. The vegetables were distributed this past spring to households that were in urgent need of food, and included an assortment of canned vegetables from which clients could select. This grant helped the Rock River Valley Pantry meet the recommended nutritional needs of the eligible individuals living in Winnebago County households that are food insecure.
The Rock River Valley Pantry assists on average more than 6,000 individuals each month. Children are 38% of the client base, and adults 65 years of age and older are almost 10% of the client base. The RRVP is a community based food pantry that relies on the support of the community to help provide food for those in need from their two distribution locations.
Thanks to the support provided by the CFNI, and the 125 volunteers that assist every week at the pantry, people who are in need of food have a place to turn to for assistance.
